A large crowd of women and girls sits closely on mats and cloth on the ground, many in saree and salwar colours including orange, pink, green, blue and yellow. A few older women sit near the right side, and one child sits among the group.2011-05-02May 02 20112011-05-02May 02 20112011-05-02Night outdoor gathering on a dirt ground with a large crowd of women, many in saffron and yellow saris, seated in rows on the ground behind rows of small brass oil lamps and leaf plates of flowers and offerings. A man in white dhoti and shawl stands at left before a small monitor, appearing to address the assembly. Behind them a large black banner shows a printed portrait of a bald-headed figure framed by a colourful ring of flowers, flanked by a tall framed panel and a small gold-rimmed altar. Hanging paper lanterns in red and pink and bunting strings decorate the area. Attendees wear white, saffron, green and pink saris and kurtas; children sit in front, and several people in white stand near the platform. The portrait is a printed image, not a person present, and the portrait's caption is not legible.2007-02-11January 12 20072007-01-12January 12 20072007-01-12Outdoor evening gathering of many devotees seated in long rows on sand, facing a central aisle, before small brick-built fire pits (homa kundas) with brass plates of offerings, flower garlands, fruit and oil lamps. Most attendees wear white, pink, teal, green and cream clothes; many women have flowers in their hair. Tall lamp posts light the scene, strings of decorative lights and marigold-style festoons hang above, and a large screen at the back shows a picture. Palm trees and a flag line the background. Several figures in white dhotis stand near the front and sides. The setting resembles a large communal puja or sacred meal event; the exact ritual is not clearly legible.2007-02-11February 11 20072007-02-11Outdoor communal meal at dusk under palm trees, with a large crowd seated on the ground in rows eating from leaf plates on the sand. Women in saffron, red, green, yellow and blue saris and men in white shirts and dhotis sit close together. Decorative umbrellas and strings of bunting hang overhead, and a few people stand and walk between the rows serving food. Banners line the back of the scene. No single a person candidate is clearly identifiable, so this reads as an annadan style feeding gathering.2007-02-11April 17 20112011-04-17 +1 copies
