A dense crowd fills a stone-pillared temple hall, with smoke or incense haze drifting through the air. Several bald, saffron-robed monks stand in the foreground, one wearing an orange garment and gold necklace, with a green leafy garland held in the middle of the group. Men in white shirts and dhotis surround them, and a few people raise hands and cameras. Yellow signboards line the wall and a wooden ceiling frames the scene. A figure with long dark hair and a saffron wrap appears near the centre, a person candidate, though the faces cannot be clearly confirmed from this crowded view.2010-12-29A crowded temple interior at night under bright tube lights, with a dense crowd pressing toward a gold iron railing on the left. In the centre, a large decorated deity murti or palanquin with a bright orange-yellow flame and a garland of multicoloured flowers is carried forward. Men in white shirts and dhotis, some with folded hands in namaskar, and bald priests and devotees in orange and saffron cloth surround it. Several people hold up mobile phones and a video camera. Stone pillars and carved ornamentation frame the hall, and a sign reads in Tamil script above the entrance. A cluster of about twenty to thirty people is visible.2012-04-05December 29 20102010-12-29December 29 20102010-12-29A crowd of devotees moves through a temple colonnade toward a stone gateway. In the centre, a figure in an orange-red robe with a long gold-beaded necklace walks among the crowd, appearing to be a sannyasi; the appearance is not clear enough to confirm a person candidate. Around him, men wear white shirts and dhotis with orange shawls and sandalwood or ash markings on their foreheads. A man in the foreground in a white shirt raises one finger and holds a long wooden staff-like instrument, and a shaved-headed youth in a teal shirt stands at left. Stalls with garlands and printed signs line the left side under a blue banner.2008-08-02May 31 20122012-05-31A crowded temple interior filled with devotees pressing together under tall decorated pillars draped in purple, orange and rainbow cloth with yellow fringe. Two shaved-headed men in saffron-orange cloths stand at the centre, one with a gold chain, and a few men wear white dhotis and shirts. Women in saris and flowers are visible among the crowd. A camera operator is visible at the lower left edge.2012-04-05December 29 20102010-12-29A dense crowd of devotees presses around a central figure inside a dimly lit temple hall with a stone pillar on the left. A woman with long dark hair, a red bindi and a tilak on her forehead smiles at the centre, wearing an orange-and-saffron garment. Beside her, a bald man in glasses and a white shawl, with a tilak and a gold chain, stands among men in white shirts and dhotis, one with a rudraksha mala. Hands reach toward the group. A strip of light runs diagonally across the upper frame.2010-12-29A crowded procession moves through a stone temple colonnade with carved pillars and a gopuram visible through the doorway. A central figure with long dark hair and a rudraksha-style beaded mala and gold necklace wears a saffron-orange robe, and appears to be the focus of the procession; he is a person candidate based on his long swept hair, saffron clothing and ornate necklace, shown in procession among devotees. Around him, men in white dhotis and saffron-orange shawls walk, some with vibhuti or tilak marks on the forehead, and one bald young man in a teal shirt stands near the front. Flower garlands hang from a stall at left beneath Tamil signage.2008-08-02December 29 20102010-12-29Night street procession in a crowded lane lit by string lights and illuminated temple chariot in the background. At the centre, a bearded man in an orange-brown robe wears a large white and multicoloured flower garland and has white tripundra markings on his forehead; he is surrounded and held by many devotees. Around him, a bald man in a white dhoti and shirt, men in white shirts, a man in a saffron-yellow shawl, and women in dark and blue saris press close. Shuttered shops line the right side of the street. Visible physical people number roughly 20 to 30, and the identity of the central figure is uncertain from appearance alone.2017-02-07
