A tall tapering golden flagstaff with a small orange-and-dark pennant rises beside a white-and-red striped platform wreathed in flower garlands, with a deity murti at its base. Two people in orange saffron robes stand before the platform with hands folded in namaste. On the left, two men in white ritual clothes stand with hands joined. A dark stone-topped square platform is ringed with many small lit lamps, and a rangoli design glows with lamps on the ground. Several small ring-shaped arrangements of burning oil lamps glow across the sandy ground, with a seated deity murti visible at the base of the pole and a fire pit-like stone platform in the foreground edged in red and white bands. Two figures in white clothing walk near the shrine, and a third person in white stands at the right edge, with a kolam design drawn on the pavement in the lower corner. Hazy smoke hangs in the blue evening light.2010-07-28December 21 20072007-12-21Night photo of a ritual at a courtyard with string lights strung overhead. A tall copper-coloured flagstaff stands on a white raised platform, and a man in an orange robe stands on the platform, reaching up to the top of the pole and tying or hoisting saffron and red cloth. Around the base, about a dozen people in white dhotis and white kurtas stand in a loose ring, several holding ropes or looking up. A woman in a white sari with a red border stands at the left edge. A white building with a sign is behind them, and a small wooden stool with a brass lamp sits to the right. The scene looks like a flag-raising or pole-hoisting ceremony.2007-12-21December 30 20062006-12-30
