Outdoor festival scene at Nithyanandeshwara Paramashiva Devalayam, Adi Kailasa, during Dwajarohanam. A shirtless man in an orange-red dhoti and shawl, with a dark topknot, a rudraksha mala and white markings on his arms and back, wraps a white cloth with green leaves and dried grass around a tall golden flagstaff. Hands from the left hold the white and gold-bordered cloth. Another man with white forehead markings and a beaded mala stands at the right edge beside a grey animal statue. Green trees form the background.2021-11-12November 12 20212021-11-12Two sadhus in saffron-orange dhotis and shawls, one bare-chested, tie a teal and gold cloth wrapped around a tall golden flagstaff during the Dhvajarohanam flag-hoisting ritual. The pole is bound with green leaves, straw and a white rope. Their faces show white ash markings, and they wear rudraksha malas and bracelets. Palm trees and soft morning light fill the background, and a garlanded pole with flowers is visible at the right edge. Both wear rudraksha malas; the man on the left has long hair tied up, and the man on the right has a braided beard and hair. Their hands rest on a flag cloth wrapped around the pole in green, gold and pink bands, with leaves and straw bound at its base. Sunlight glows through palm trees behind them.2021-12-19A photograph of a ceremonial flag-hoisting at an outdoor temple pavilion. A copper-coloured ritual pole stands on a large ornate bronze base decorated with garlands of yellow and white flowers, and bundles of straw hang from its top with a white cloth draped around it. Three men in saffron-orange dhotis help raise the pole: one on the left wears a rust-brown robe, a red-and-pink garland and a red turban, and another on the right has a bare chest, rudraksha beads and gold armbands. Another priest in orange stands behind the base. A crowd of onlookers stands along the edge at left, and colourful hanging decorations and lamps fill the covered area above.2016-12-14Photo 66790812021-12-19 +1 copiesNovember 29 20112011-11-29 +1 copiesDecember 30 20172017-12-30
