Steel chafing dishes with rice and curries sit on brass-framed stands, and a man in saffron robes with a rudraksha mala and a gold pendant serves food onto a leaf-shaped plate. Beside him, a shaved-headed man in orange clothing with a yellow shawl and mala stands at the line, and a woman in red-and-gold sari with a rudraksha mala receives food. Foreground women in orange shawls hold white disposable food trays. Several other people in white and orange are blurred in the background.2015-07-07 +1 copiesA photograph of a communal meal service under a covered open-sided shelter with a bamboo-mat ceiling. In the foreground on the left, a woman in a white sari with orange border serves from a tray. On the right, a smiling man wearing rimless glasses, an orange shawl and a rudraksha mala stands beside a man in white with a yellow-bordered shawl. Several women in white dress with red-orange shawls stand behind steel serving trays and ladle food; one server wears a white hairnet and clear gloves. Other servers in white and red-orange wraps carry plates loaded with rice, vegetables and dark berries toward the diners. A woman in the foreground wears a white and red-orange outfit, a beaded necklace and a red bindi while holding a plate. Framed red artwork hangs on the wall behind, and tables and chairs fill the room. The scene reads as annadan, a serving of food to devotees.2016-02-22
