January 06 20122012-01-06January 06 20122012-01-06Night-time photo of a relief distribution at an open dirt yard beside a building. A metal frame canopy stands overhead. A crowd of about twenty people stands in a loose queue facing a truck or cart with wooden slatted sides in the background. Women on the left wear yellow, pink and green saris and a child in a striped shirt is in the foreground. Men in white shirts and checked lungis or dhotis, one in a pink shirt, walk through the crowd. Piles of earth and pipes lie at the right edge. The scene suggests cyclone relief aid being handed out.2012-01-07January 07 20122012-01-07 +1 copiesA night-time photograph of a village street where a crowd gathers around a food distribution at an annadaan. Several people hold out steel pots and bowls, and a man in a white shirt and a man in a yellow shirt stand at a blue-and-white cart or table holding vessels. A woman in a light blue dress and a woman in a red and green sari with a white flower in her hair stand in the foreground. A lit lamp glows in the background, and bamboo poles and a small flag are visible. The scene is lit by a flashlight beam.2012-01-06Night-time food distribution in a village lane lined with thatched huts and a plain wall. A truck bed with blue slatted sides is loaded with large steel vessels, and a man in a light blue shirt stands on it passing out containers. Many villagers crowd forward with steel plates and bowls raised, including women in saris and older women with grey hair, and children reaching up. Orange flags are fixed to the truck. On the right, a young man with a white tilak on his forehead and a light orange cloth draped over his shoulders holds a plate of food.2012-01-04A dense crowd of men at night, pressing along a dark roadside lined with trees. Most wear white shirts and dhotis or trousers, and several hold up mobile phones to record. In the upper centre, a figure in an orange-saffron garment with a red cloth stands above the crowd near a vehicle, but the face and adornments are not clearly visible, so the identity cannot be confirmed. Some people in the foreground are looking toward the camera. The scene suggests a darshan gathering outdoors.2014-07-01Night photograph of a relief distribution at a truck with a wooden railing. Several men in light shirts and green caps stand on or beside the truck bed handing items down. Below, a crowd of women in colourful saris, including a yellow-and-brown floral sari and a teal floral sari, and children, one girl in a yellow top with a long braid holding a steel bowl, reach upward to receive them. An older bare-chested man with a white dhoti holds a steel vessel at left. The scene is lit by dim night lighting.2012-01-07December 23 20162016-12-23January 07 20122012-01-07March 10 20132013-03-10May 21 20122012-05-21
