In the foreground a bare-chested man in white dhoti and shawl sits at the front, while a woman in a white sari sits beside him, both facing the fire. Many more participants fill the background, some in green, pink and orange saris. At the far right edge, a man in white clothing sits near the wall, apparently overseeing the ritual, with no distinctive visible cues to identify him.2007-09-30October 16 20102010-10-16 +1 copiesSeptember 05 20172017-09-05 +1 copiesJuly 19 20132013-07-19December 26 20082008-12-26A homa fire ceremony inside a hall with white draped cloth overhead and a decorated shrine behind. A fire burns in a brick fire pit decorated with flowers and marigold garlands, with brass vessels and a plate beside it. A bare-chested priest with a shaved head sits at the fire, holding a flower-garlanded object, wearing an orange-red shawl. A man in white with an orange-red shawl stands with palms pressed together. Women in white saris with gold borders and orange-red shawls assist at the left, and a seated woman in a red-and-gold sari extends her hand toward the fire at lower right. Many seated devotees fill the background, and a deity murti sits in an arched shrine.2015-07-17Outdoor homa ceremony in progress on bare ground. A central fire burns inside a square fire pit built from white-painted bricks, decorated with marigold petals. A man in white dhoti and white shirt with a yellow shawl pours or offers into the fire, seated beside another man in white with a yellow shawl. Behind them many devotees, mostly women in white and colourful saris, sit on the ground watching. To the right, tiers of brass-rimmed clay pots with mango leaves and coconuts are arranged on white-draped platforms. Brass plates of offerings and flowers lie to the left, with an orange cloth in the foreground and a red-and-white backdrop behind the crowd.2010-07-24A homa fire ritual in a hall with a rectangular brick-edged fire pit burning logs with flames and smoke in the foreground. A man in orange robes with a white forehead mark and a gold-beaded mala, seated at the right, extends his arm to feed the fire with a stick while small bowls of offerings and a open book sit beside him. Rows of seated devotees in white dhotis and kurtas, some in red shawls, face the fire on mats including a purple mat and red-striped runner. A small boy in a camouflage shirt sits near the fire. A golden throne-like seat stands at the back of the hall. The scene reads as an ashram satsang with fire offerings; the man in orange is a priest officiating the homa, and his identity is not established from appearance.2012-09-09July 17 20152015-07-17A photograph of a homa fire ceremony on a white-brick fire pit with visible flames and marigold petals scattered around it. A man seated at the lower right wears an orange-saffron garment with red borders and a ceremonial gold necklace, and pours an offering from a white conch-shaped vessel into the fire; his head is shaved with a white forehead marking and he wears glasses. Behind the fire, many young women and girls sit in rows in white clothing, several with hands folded in prayer, one in an orange shawl. Brass implements, a silver cup, a bell, kettles and a brass ladle lie around the pit.2007-08-26 +1 copies
