A brown cow and a brown bull, decorated with yellow and white marigold garlands, banana-leaf strings and red kumkum on their foreheads, eat from a banana leaf offering on the ground. The leaf holds bananas, cooked rice and sweets. A man with a shaved head, partly visible at the left edge, stands beside the animals. On the right, a person in an orange dhoti with gold border stands on a striped floor mat, and a brass vessel with red kumkum sits at the lower right. The scene reflects a Mattu Pongal cattle offering.

He wears a rudraksha mala and a white garland of flowers. Behind him, other people in orange and brown robes stand in white garlands. Red markings are visible on the cow's face and horns. The setting suggests a Mattu Pongal cattle worship rite. The man's appearance is not clearly distinctive enough to confirm identity, and his role is a priest or devotee.2018-01-15 +1 copiesJanuary 16 20192019-01-16January 15 20182018-01-15January 15 20182018-01-15 +1 copiesJanuary 15 20182018-01-15October 08 20072007-10-08January 15 20182018-01-15Night ritual outdoors at a Mattu Pongal celebration: two cows, one brown and one reddish calf, stand on sand decorated with a colourful kolam, garlanded with yellow and orange marigolds and flower strands. Nearby, saffron-robed devotees with rudraksha malas stand in rows with palms pressed together, some holding offering plates of fruit and flowers. On the right, a man in orange robes and a long garland of pink and white flowers holds his hands folded in namaste.
