In the centre, a robed priest in saffron-orange garments with a bare upper body and ornate gold-bordered shawl holds a round brass tray toward a large copper kalasha-shaped vessel wrapped in green-and-yellow garlands and a thatched top. A younger assistant in a yellow-green dhoti with a gold-bordered cloth stands beside the vessel, hands near it. A bare-chested man in saffron-orange dhoti and shawl stands on the platform, pulling a long white rope that runs up the flagpole for the flag hoisting. Behind him, a man in white dhoti with gold border and a few seated devotees in orange and white watch. Scattered petals lie on the floor, and a faint watermarked name appears in the corner. Presentation and identity are not confidently established, so the figure is described by role as a priest performing dwajarohana.2010-12-20A photograph of a flag-hoisting ritual at dusk beneath palm trees.
