Photograph of a crowded river bathing scene at Kumbh Mela. In the foreground, a figure with long, matted dark hair and bare back stands waist-deep in greenish water, facing a crowd of men and women wearing white dhotis and yellow shirts, many with long gold beaded necklaces. Several men reach toward the figure, and a woman in a golden sari holds a long white pole. A tall red and gold flag rises at upper right, and a person with a video camera stands at left. The scene conveys a ritual immersion with devotees gathered at the water's edge.
