Close-up photograph of a devotee's bare upper arm pierced by a lemon impaled on a metal skewer, with the lemon's green peel and a red-and-green pointed tip visible. A hand holds the lemon from below while the skin shows a white powdery mark and a dark shadow of a hand cast across the arm. Blurred figures and dim background suggest a crowded ritual setting, consistent with a lemon-piercing practice at a temple event.

January 03 20182018-01-03Close-up photograph of a figure's pale grey-white painted arm pierced through with several bright green-yellow lemons, each fixed on a thin green and maroon cord. The arm rests on a silver or metallic staff held in a clenched hand at the right edge. The figure wears a rust-brown cloth wrapped around the waist with a woven gold-and-cream sash, and a cream and gold garland hangs at the side. Dark hair tips appear at the upper left. The scene matches a lemon-piercing ritual of the kind described in the excerpt, performed by a figure whose body is painted white. Faces are not visible, so no person is identified.2018-01-03 +1 copiesJanuary 03 20182018-01-03January 03 20182018-01-03January 03 20182018-01-03January 03 20182018-01-03 +1 copiesJuly 15 20112011-07-15January 03 20182018-01-03January 03 20182018-01-03 +1 copiesJanuary 03 20182018-01-03Close-up photograph of a ritual exchange in warm reddish light. In the foreground, a hand holding a folded white paper or sacred leaf is offered into the cupped palm of another hand. Behind them, a blurred figure wears an orange-saffron garment and a rudraksha-style bead mala, with a fan-shaped white object behind the head and a brass or copper vessel at the right edge.2018-04-25A photograph of a devotee kneeling in a white shirt and holding a green lime or lemon in his raised right hand while a bare-chested figure with long dreadlocked hair and a full beard, wearing a white flower garland, touches his forehead with an outstretched hand. Behind them, several people stand, including a man in a red-brown robe with a rudraksha mala and beaded bracelets, and a man in a turquoise polo shirt with a visitor lanyard. A woman in the lower left is partly visible. The setting appears to be an indoor hall with a patterned floor mat and a blurred crowd. The figure with the garland and dreadlocks could be a person based on the dreadlocks, beard and flower garland, but this is uncertain. The gesture resembles a blessing given with a lime.2017-04-02
