A group of about a dozen people walks across a paved courtyard toward a tall, ornately carved gopuram tower of a South Indian temple, its tiers covered in sculpted figures. Most walkers wear white dhotis and shirts; a few women wear white saris and a man in front wears an orange-saffron dhoti. A bare-headed man in orange-saffron robes walks at the front right, and an elderly man in saffron wraps stands at right beside a low tiled-roof building with white walls. Clear blue sky and a utility line overhead.2006-11-24A photograph of a tall, ornately carved gopuram temple tower with a dark doorway at its base, set against a clear blue sky. In the foreground on a stone courtyard, a group of about ten people walk toward the entrance, mostly men in white shirts and white dhotis with orange cloth, and a woman in a red-and-orange sari with an orange head covering and a flower garland. An older bearded man in an orange shawl and white dhoti walks at the right beside a green-roofed building. No individual can be confidently identified as a person from appearance, so roles are used.2006-11-24November 24 20062006-11-24A photograph of a large ornate gopuram, the tiered stone temple gateway, with carved sculptures and pale stucco figures rising under a clear blue sky. In the foreground on a paved courtyard, a group of about eight to ten men walk toward the viewer, most in white shirts and dhotis, one in an orange lungi with a bare torso, and a figure in an orange turban with a saffron-and-magenta garment and ornate neck garland stands out among them. To the right, an elderly bald man in an orange shawl and white dhoti walks alone.2006-11-24Outdoor photograph of a group walking across a paved courtyard toward a tall, ornately sculpted gopuram temple tower with tiers of carved figures and a dark entrance archway. Most walkers wear white shirts and white dhotis, with orange cloth worn over the shoulders by several men. A man in an orange robe with a bright orange turban and a garland walks near the centre, and an elderly bearded man in an orange robe walks at the right edge with a bare upper body. A low wall and a few trees and a utility wire fill the background under a clear blue sky. Several women in saris follow the group on the left. The scene suggests a temple visit or procession.2006-11-24November 24 20062006-11-24A photograph of a large stone temple gopuram, its tiered carved tower rising at the left under a clear pale sky, beside a long whitish-grey granite compound wall with rounded stone finials along its top edge and reddish-brown vertical striping on its lower courses. Green grass lies in the foreground. At the bottom edge, three women are partly visible, one in a yellow sari and another in a white top, with a fourth head near the bottom. No deity or ritual is visible.2008-05-04September 18 20062006-09-18A photograph taken from behind a group walking along a dusty street toward a tall, sculpted stone gopuram temple tower with tiered carved levels and small shrine niches, under a pale sky. The walkers wear white clothing, with several women in white kurta-style garments with orange shawls draped over their shoulders. Among them is a man in white dhoti with a yellow shawl carrying a black bag, and a woman with a blonde ponytail in white. Market stalls with awnings line the roadside, and a few more people are visible in the background, along with a flowering tree and utility pole.2008-05-04Photograph of a tall, ornately carved gopuram temple tower of pale stone, its sculpted tiers crowded with figures and topped by small kalasha finials, with an open entrance doorway below. In the foreground a group of men in white shirts and white dhotis walks across a paved courtyard toward the gate. A figure in an orange-saffron robe with a red-and-orange head wrap and a garland walks at the centre of the group, and to the right an older bearded man with white hair wears an orange shawl over a white dhoti and walks barefoot. The figure in the saffron robe and head wrap is a sannyasi-style figure, with appearance cues that are not distinctive enough to confirm identity, so the a person field is unsure. Clear blue sky and utility wires are visible above the temple.2006-11-24Outdoor photograph of a group walking across a paved courtyard toward a carved gopuram tower of a South Indian temple, its ornate stone sculptures painted pale. Around him are men in white dhotis and white shirts and others in orange garments; one older man at right wears an orange-and-red shawl and white dhoti. A man at left in a grey shirt and brown lungi walks ahead. A white boundary wall, trees and a red-and-white telecom tower frame the scene under a clear blue sky.2006-11-24Photograph of a richly carved stone temple tower with multiple tiers of sculpted figures and mouldings, rising against a pale sky. The orange-clad figure in the centre has long dark hair and a saffron drape over the shoulders. Carved pillars and niches line the lower walls of the shrine.2006-09-18
