A night photograph of a large bonfire blazing on bare dry ground. Several men in light shirts and dark trousers stand around the fire with arms outstretched, some blurred in motion as if circling or dancing. Behind them, a few people in white clothing and a lit lamp stand near a low building. Bright flames and sparks rise high against a dark sky, with tall poles or staffs visible at the edges.

Around the fire, a line of people walk and move in a circle, several with hands raised and palms together in reverence. Many wear white or cream dhotis and kurtas, while some wear saffron-orange cloth. A bright portable light stands at left. The fire appears to be a ritual fire pit, with people circling it in devotional movement.2013-03-02 +1 copiesMarch 02 20132013-03-02Night photograph of a large bonfire blazing on bare ground, with sparks rising. Several people in saffron-orange robes stand and move around the fire, some with hands raised, others in white dhotis and a cream sari. At left, an ornate illuminated shrine with a deity murti sits under floodlights. A dark-clothed figure with raised arm appears at the right edge, and a building with lit windows is behind. No clear a person cues are visible among the people; the scene suggests a homa or fire ritual.2013-03-02March 02 20132013-03-02March 02 20132013-03-02 +1 copiesNovember 21 20102010-11-21Night photograph of a large outdoor fire ritual. A tall bright bonfire blazes at centre while a ring of devotees dance and clap around it with raised arms. Many wear white or cream dhotis and kurtas, others wear saffron-orange and red robes, and some have shaved heads. A woman in a white sari with gold border and flowers in her hair stands in the foreground, and an orange-robed man on the right wears a rudraksha-style beaded necklace. A torch flame appears at the far left. A single building with lit windows stands behind the group under floodlight, and the setting is a dusty open ground. No single figure is clearly identifiable as a person.2013-03-02
