Night outdoor ritual at an open ground. In the foreground, a person in light clothing stands beside a tall effigy-like figure of bamboo poles that is engulfed in large flames, with smoke rising. Along the left, rows of people in orange and red robes sit facing a raised platform. On the platform, a seated figure sits under an ornate golden umbrella-like canopy, with a second white umbrella nearby. A line of people in white and cream clothing stands to the right, watching, with others in white dhotis and saris behind them. Oil lamps burn at the lower left corner.

Smoke drifts upward against a dark background of trees. Along the right, a row of people in white and light-coloured clothing, several in orange or red garments, stand watching. In the background left, a crowd stands behind a barrier and a decorated structure glows with lights. The scene suggests an anti-spiritual elements burning ritual; the effigy is a straw figure being burnt, not a person.2016-03-02Night photograph of an outdoor ritual ground with a large effigy engulfed in tall flames, held upright on a pole and surrounded by bamboo sticks.
