Uniformed police officers in khaki with caps and belts walk in front and around a richly decorated deity palanquin covered in marigold garlands and gold ornaments, carried above the crowd. Devotees in saris, including a woman in a green sari and one in a purple sari, and men in white shirts and dhotis walk along, some with hands raised in worship. A red and gold canopy or banner flies above the palanquin, and a yellow signboard with Tamil text is at right.
