Plates hold white rice or grain arranged in concentric rings, with a small yellow-and-black cylindrical item placed on one plate. A large round metal tray holds dried herbs, roots, bark pieces and seeds. Bundles of wrapped cloth in orange, red, green and gold sit in the centre. Dried sticks or twigs are bundled in woven baskets at the back, and green banana leaves lie across the table. Small metal dishes filled with grains or powders sit on a tray at left, beside a brass vessel. A multicolour striped cloth hangs along the top edge. No people are visible.2016-12-15September 02 20172017-09-02 +1 copiesA photograph of a ritual offering setup on a colourful striped woven mat in a dim interior. Dozens of small brass bowls are arranged in a large triangular pattern filled with grains, seeds, dried leaves, powders and small stones, with a red-powder bowl at the lower left. Trays of dried twigs, white shell-like pieces and yellow grains sit at the left edge, and a wooden stand holds metal vessels and a brass lamp. A figure in orange robes is seated behind the arrangement, with a white-clothed person partly visible at the top left. A rock wall glows warm at the left, and a small clear-glass lamp sits on the floor. Such arrangements suggest a homa or tharpanam offering.2009-07-01
