Night photograph of a Karthikai Deepam-style fire ritual at a temple courtyard. A large bonfire of dried sugarcane stalks and wooden logs burns on the right, flames rising high. Standing in a line on the left, a group of devotees in white dhotis and white shirts, plus a few women in white saris with yellow borders, face the fire. A man in a saffron/orange robe stands near the centre, and another man in a reddish-brown shirt stands beside the fire. On the left, a figure in an orange garment holds a decorated palanquin or ratha canopy with a deity murti under a colourful canopy and strings of lights in the background.
