A photograph of a devotee receiving a blessing during a ritual. A shaved-headed man in a white shirt with an orange lanyard stands with palms pressed together and eyes closed. A woman in a maroon-and-gold sari with a long beaded necklace and a white tilak on her forehead places her right hand on his forehead and holds a folded paper in her left hand. Behind them, other people in white and orange-red clothing are seated and standing in a dim hall, with a silver pole at the left edge. The scene suggests a blessing or initiation ceremony.

The recipient holds his palm up in greeting. Behind them a woman in white with a beaded necklace watches, and a woman in a red-and-gold dress with a bindi is at right. The seated figure sits beside gilded lion-head armrests, and a silver staff stands between them and a red throne in the background. A woman in the lower right looks down. The seated man's rust-red wrap and garland match the ceremonial setting of a blessing or initiation. a person is shown with a shaved head, which fails the distinctive-cue requirement, so the identity is uncertain.2014-05-13
