A photograph of a ritual at night showing a large flame rising from a brass vessel or lamp placed in front of a figure draped in white, red and green cloth. The figure's head and shoulders are covered with garlands of white flowers, marigolds and green leaves. A bare arm with a bangle reaches toward the flame. A hanging brass oil lamp with a lit wick and a second lamp glow in the background against a grey stone wall. The scene suggests a homa or fire ritual, though only the flame, offerings and garlanded figure are clearly visible. The figure's face is not visible, so no identification is made.2012-05-18Close-up photo of a person in a reddish-orange robe holding a silver camphor or oil lamp with a bright open flame and smoke rising from its dish, during a ritual aarti or puja at night. A man in saffron-orange robes and a matching orange head wrap sits behind a fire pit, holding coconuts up before a flame. He wears a rudraksha mala and has a tilak on his forehead. A microphone stands near him. Two men in white shirts sit to the right, one with a beard, and offerings and a kalasha are visible on the stone platform.
