Himalaya Yatra 2005 PhotosMay 25 20052005-05-25June 01 20052005-06-01A photograph of a man with long, swept-back dark hair and a red bindi, seated on a wooden palanquin-style chair carried on wooden poles outdoors on a stony, wet path. He wears a turquoise kurta with embroidered neckline, an orange dhoti, and a cream sash draped over his shoulder, with orange cushions behind him. Several men in jackets, caps and work clothes stand around, one holding a pole and another gripping the chair frame, with folded striped blankets and a green checked cloth on the seat. The chair appears to be a ceremonial carrying conveyance; the man's appearance (long hair, saffron-toned dhoti, ornate kurta, presentation being carried) gives a probable match to a person, though the face is not visible enough for certainty.2008-06-30January 04 20122012-01-04A crowded photograph inside a small roadside shop stocked with bottled drinks, snacks and colourful packets. A central figure in an orange-saffron robe with long dark hair and a rudraksha mala stands with one hand raised in greeting, flanked by older men in caps and jackets. Around them, people in orange and wool shawls press close; some men in hats crouch in the foreground. The shelves behind hold Coca-Cola crates and glass bottles.2005-05-25Outdoor photograph on a stony mountain path where a man with long dark wavy hair and a red bindi sits in a wooden chair carried by bearers on wooden poles. He wears a turquoise kurta with embroidered neckline, a yellow-gold wrap draped over his shoulder, and orange-yellow cloth across his lap, with an orange cushion behind him. A folded turquoise checked cloth rests on the chair frame. Around him stand several onlookers: a man in a brown jacket with red trim gripping the chair, a man in a dark hooded top and cap, a man in a light blue shirt, and a man in white shirt with a green strap hand on his hip. Some pink and purple blankets are visible at right.2008-06-30May 26 20062006-05-26A narrow street procession in a hill town, with crowds in saffron and orange clothing and many devotees wearing orange shawls and caps. In the foreground a smiling man in an orange saffron robe with a trimmed orange cap, a large gold-beaded necklace and a rudraksha-style mala in his hand walks forward. Beside him a man in white trousers and an orange shawl walks, and behind them others in red, orange and white clothing follow. Shops with blue awnings line the lane. +1 copiesA photograph of an outdoor roadside stall in mountainous terrain. A seated man in orange robes and an orange head wrap sits on a wooden bench, holding a long wooden staff, with a trident leaning nearby. Around him, several men wear orange shawls; one standing man in dark clothing and a grey-haired man in a dark jacket stand near a stall displaying red crates, bottles and trinkets, and a tarpaulin roof overhead. A woman in a white garment stands at the right edge. Hills and a blue sign are visible in the background. No one visible is confidently identifiable as the a person from appearance alone, so the seated orange-robed man is described by role only.2005-05-25Photograph inside a decorated orange and white tent at a Kumbh Mela camp. A man with long dark hair, an orange turban, a red tilak and gold necklaces sits on a leopard-print cushioned seat, smiling broadly, wearing orange robes and a rudraksha mala. Beside him a bearded companion in orange robes and garlands sits with palms pressed together in namaskar. Behind them, devotees in white and orange sit and stand near colourful patterned banners. In front, a white cloth holds brass puja vessels, a plate of rose petals, incense sticks and a small lamp. The appearance of the seated central figure fits the a person candidate, shown in a sannyasi role receiving devotees, with orange turban, long swept hair and gold ornaments as cues.2007-01-19September 27 20102010-09-27 +1 copies
