He holds a long wooden staff topped by a red canopy. Around him, ash-smeared sadhus in white and orange dhotis carry ceremonial staffs and orange flags, while others walk barefoot. Behind them a decorated chariot or palanquin is draped with marigold garlands, with embroidered orange and red umbrellas and banners fringed in gold and blue. Several people in the crowd wear white and red waist cloths and bare upper bodies. a person is the saffron-robed central figure with the gold crown and rudraksha mala, though his identity is not certain from the image alone.2013-02-10January 02 20092009-01-02Outdoor photograph at a religious gathering with a red-and-white tent and a decorated red-and-gold ratha-style float behind the crowd. Four prominent men walk forward in saffron and orange sannyasi robes: on the left a man in a rust-orange turban and long rudraksha mala waves his hand; next to him a bearded man in orange cloth; beside them a long-haired, long-white-bearded elder in orange shawl with red-and-white beads and a red mala. On the far right a bare-shouldered devotee in white dhoti and red shawl wears gold necklaces. Behind them devotees in white dhotis with gold borders and marigold garlands crowd the path. No identification of the elder is made from appearance alone; the outdoor procession setting and orange robes suggest a sadhu procession.2016-05-04December 30 20072007-12-30
