A display of painted clay figurines arranged on a bed of soil among green foliage, depicting a scene of devotees and deities. Two horse-mounted figures in the foreground, one in blue with a red crown and one in pink, sit on white horses with coloured bases. Behind them, many small figures in saffron, red, green, yellow and purple dhotis and saris stand in groups, some holding flutes, some with tilak marks, some wearing garlands. A golden figure stands at the upper right and a painted elephant appears beside it. The figurines are clearly statues, not living people.2009-09-22 +1 copiesOctober 08 20162016-10-08 +1 copiesA photograph of a Navaratri golu display of painted clay dolls arranged on a white cloth and a gold-and-maroon brocade runner. Along the front, many small figures in bright saffron, green, pink and yellow clothes are arranged as a crowd, some in pairs, with a small red-cloth table holding offerings. Behind them on a raised platform, larger seated figures in green saree, blue and gold clothing and white garments sit beside pumpkins and fruit. Strings of white and green fairy lights run along the display, and potted green plants frame the foreground. A large golden statue's legs are visible at the top left. No physical people are visible.October 08 20162016-10-08October 08 20162016-10-08A festive display of painted clay dolls, as in a Navaratri golu arrangement, on tiered steps draped in teal and orange silk. In the foreground a row of small figures plays instruments: a pink-clad musician with a nadaswaram-type pipe, a drummer with a drum, and a bare-chested boy with a small pipe. A golden palanquin or ratha with tassels of pink, green and purple stands at left, beside white horse figures. Other dolls include a seated woman in blue, a standing figure in a red sari, and a gold deity figurine at right. Statues only; no living people are visible.2011-10-02October 02 20112011-10-02A photograph of a display of painted clay figurines, the kind used in a Navaratri golu arrangement. In the centre a small seated figure in orange robes sits on a dark rock base, with a red tilak on the forehead, a dark bead necklace, and hands held in a gesture of blessing, with a turtle at its base. Nearby stand a green-robed figure with a purple sash and blurred orange-robed figures in the foreground, set against a dark tree, colourful painted dolls and a striped tiered structure. The figures are miniature statuettes, not people, and the appearance of the central figure is not a sufficient basis for identifying anyone.2016-10-08October 08 20162016-10-08
