A photo of a fire ritual. Behind the fire, a man with long dark hair wound into a high bun and a red tilak on his forehead stands with palms pressed together in prayer. He wears a pink and white flower garland, a heavy gold ceremonial necklace and rudraksha bracelets, and a rust-brown garment. Beside him stands a bare-chested man in an orange cloth with a white shawl and beaded necklaces, also in anjali mudra. Behind them a woman in a purple sari stands among marigold garlands and a decorated golden arch.2018-04-14 +1 copiesA man stands barefoot with palms pressed together in prayer before a fire pit, a homa or yagna. Behind him, an attendant in orange cloth carries a silver bowl, another in orange and white stands near a golden throne draped with flower garlands, a man in maroon kneels holding an oil lamp, and a robed figure with white forehead markings reads from a book. Red curtains and an air conditioner form the backdrop.2013-05-19A photograph of a fire ritual inside a temple hall, with a homa fire pit built from bricks and decorated with marigold and flower petals in the foreground. Flames and smoke rise from offerings including fruit. Behind the fire, a priest in white dhoti and shawl holds a microphone and chants. Other white-clad priests and a man in an orange dhoti kneel nearby. On the right, a standing man with a long swept-back hairstyle wears a rust-brown robe and a thick pink-and-white flower garland over gold ornaments, hands folded in prayer; a second man with a tall decorated headpiece and orange clothing also stands with folded hands. A green and gold canopy and painted decorative pillars frame the scene. Brass vessels sit on the floor at right.2018-04-14February 07 20162016-02-07July 09 20152015-07-09June 05 20122012-06-05A ceremonial homa in an indoor hall: a large fire burns in front of a stack of wooden logs wrapped in garlands while a bare-chested priest with a saffron-yellow shawl, rudraksha-style beads and a red turban kneels and pours an offering. Behind him a robed figure with a long dark swept-up crown or turban and a gold-trimmed red garment stands with hands folded in namaste beneath an ornate gold-embroidered parasol, in front of a gold throne. Four devotees in red saris and red robes with gold borders, some wearing rudraksha malas, stand behind with folded hands.2016-03-06December 11 20152015-12-11 +1 copiesA night-time homa at a fire pit built of stacked yellow bricks, with a bright flame rising from the centre. A seated man with long dark hair, a red-brown cloth, a gold necklace and a flower garland sits on an ornate gold-and-red throne behind the fire, appearing to be a ceremonial figure; the appearance-based cues are weak, so identity is uncertain. Around him, a woman in a rust-coloured sari and men in white dhotis stand, one holding a brass vessel. Flower garlands in white, yellow and purple drape the left foreground, and oil lamps burn at the lower right beside offerings of fruit and flowers.2016-03-06 +1 copies
