A temple ritual photograph at a shrine beneath a gilded arch. A man with long dark hair in a saffron-orange robe reaches up with an outstretched arm to place a dot of kumkum or vibhuti on the forehead of a golden deity murti, which wears a jewelled crown, a magenta and gold sari and heavy gold necklaces. The murti is ringed with garlands of yellow, red, purple and white flowers. In the foreground a man in a pale peach robe holds a brass plate of offerings, and another figure is partly visible at the left edge beside a white bull statue. The setting is a stone temple sanctum with ornate pillars and hanging decorations.2008-12-31March 03 20112011-03-03 +1 copiesDecember 30 20092009-12-30A photograph of a temple ritual at a shrine with a golden deity murti seated on a throne-like structure draped in purple cloth and framed by garlands of yellow, red, white and purple flowers. A robed priest in saffron-orange clothing stands at the left holding a golden ritual plate with a red cloth, while a second priest in saffron cloth with a cord and beads stands close by. A third robed figure in saffron, with a dark headband, leans forward at the centre to touch the deity's face with a saffron cloth. The deity wears a crown, gold jewellery and an orange garment. Gold ornamental pieces and a brass lamp stand are visible in the lower left.2010-12-27A photograph at a temple shrine showing a figure in saffron-orange robes and a saffron headwrap adorning a golden-bodied deity murti seated on a throne. The standing person in orange drapes an orange shawl over the murti's shoulder and touches its crown area, while a second hand at left holds a gold tray with a red cloth. The murti wears a gold crown, layered gold and beaded necklaces, earrings and bangles, and sits before a red curtain framed by garlands of yellow marigolds and red and white flowers. A brass lamp stand appears at lower left. Two people are visible, counting only the standing figure and the partially visible tray holder.2010-12-27A photograph inside a temple shrine showing a priest in a white dhoti and white shawl with long dark hair and a red-orange head cloth, reaching toward a gilded deity murti decorated with a silver crown, ornate silver-gold necklaces and a blue garment. The murti stands before a gold-framed arch wrapped in garlands of yellow, purple, red and white flowers. A second attendant in an orange robe stands at left holding a tray with offerings. A brass lamp glows in the foreground beneath the garlands. The priest's appearance does not clearly match any recognizable candidate, so the figure is described by role only.2009-01-01A photograph of a temple ritual in which a man with long dark hair, wearing a saffron-orange shawl and dhoti and an orange headband, stands applying a red tilak to the forehead of a golden metal deity murti seated on a throne. The murti wears orange garments, gold jewellery, a crown and necklaces. Behind them is a large arch of ornate gold carving and a frame of bright marigold garlands in yellow, red, purple and white. In the left foreground, two hands hold a gold tray with a red cloth, and a tray with a small brass lamp is at the lower left. Visible at the far left are a few other people in the background. The scene reads as a puja with abhishekam-style anointing of the murti.2010-12-27A photograph inside a temple shrine showing a long-haired man in an orange-saffron dhoti and matching shawl, bare-chested with an orange waist cloth band, leaning forward with both arms extended to adorn a seated deity murti. The murti is draped in red, yellow and white flower garlands and ornamented with silver jewellery and a crown-like headdress, seated on a green cushioned throne with a gold-backed chair behind. Brass oil lamps with flames stand on the floor and a second garlanded throne and deity figure are visible at left. Ritual setting with flowers and lamps.2011-11-29A photograph of a temple ritual in which a priest in saffron-orange robes and a white headband stands beside an ornate golden-and-orange deity murti, applying a mark to its forehead. The murti wears a gold crown, a red-orange headdress, a layered jewelled necklace and an orange sari-like garment. Its surround is decorated with garlands of yellow, red, white and purple flowers. In the foreground, a second attendant in orange holds a gold tray with a red cloth and a wider gold plate of marigolds, with a metal lamp stand nearby. The priest's hair is long and he wears a shawl over his shoulder, so the figure is a priest rather than a confirmed in-person candidate.2010-12-27December 11 20112011-12-11July 22 20132013-07-22A photograph of a temple deity murti decorated for ritual worship. The seated figure is a golden-faced deity dressed in orange and saffron garments with gold jewellery, necklaces and armlets, set on a purple draped seat. A standing man in saffron/orange robes with a gold headband and long hair leans in to touch the deity's face with his hand, in a tilak or anointing gesture. Behind the figure are arches of marigold and rose garlands in red, white, yellow and purple. On the left, a hand holds a gold tray, and a gold-trimmed decorated palanquin or chariot edge with garlands sits in the foreground. A red curtain and ornate metal framing surround the shrine.2010-12-27
