A central figure in an orange-saffron robe, with a wooden-bead garland and an orange head wrap, walks barefoot in the middle of the road. Around him, men in white kurta and dhoti hold long poles that support large colourful ornamental canopies, with red, orange and blue panels embroidered with elephants, birds and geometric patterns. Other men in white and in shirts walk alongside, and a woman in a white shawl stands to the right. Parked buses and a palm tree are in the background.2005-12-31February 02 20072007-02-02Outdoor procession on a paved village road lined with green bushes, palms and a white house. Several barefoot men in white dhotis and white shirts, some with orange or red shawls, walk in a group. Two men at the front carry ornate decorated poles with red, gold and blue embroidered canopies. Behind them, men in saffron-orange robes carry flags and a small deity murti with flower garlands, while others follow in white and yellow clothing. A central man in an orange saffron robe and rudraksha-style neck beads carries a folded orange cloth and a tray of offerings. Around him, men in white dhotis and white kurtas, some with yellow shawls, carry decorated ceremonial parasols and orange flags, and one holds a tray with flowers and fruit. A multicoloured umbrella and tree foliage are visible in the background. The scene reads as a pada yatra, a walking pilgrimage.2008-08-07A photograph of a pada yatra procession walking barefoot along a paved rural road under an overcast sky. Several men in white dhotis and shirts carry three ornate, multicoloured embroidered parasols on poles above a small deity murti or figure seated under the central umbrella. A man in an orange-saffron dhoti and shawl walks among them, and a white-clad man on the right carries an orange flag on a pole. A man in a yellow shawl and white clothes walks at left. Dusty roadside vegetation, a banana plant, a corrugated metal wall and piled rubbish line the road, with hills in the distance. Six people visible.2008-08-07
