In the foreground a man in a white shirt holds up a large framed portrait on a pole; the portrait shows a face in a white head-wrap and is captioned in Tamil. Two ornate multicoloured umbrellas with fringed edges, one with a red and yellow design, shade a palanquin area behind the crowd. White flags on poles, a blue-and-white flag, and a small flame near a doorway appear among the crowd. A plain cream building with a blue shutter stands at the back.
