A long-haired man in a white dhoti and white shawl stands on a dark tiled floor, holding a small lamp or incense vessel from which smoke rises as he offers it. Beside him a man in saffron-orange robes with a rudraksha-style garland holds a plate of offerings, and another man in white with a sacred thread stands at the right edge. Behind them a white arched shrine frame is decorated with red flowers and a kalasha-like arrangement of red offerings on a raised platform. Light from the trees and ground patterns of white kolam designs complete the scene.2010-12-21January 02 20132013-01-02January 1st 2013 +1 copiesA photograph of an outdoor procession in a shaded grove beneath a large banyan-type tree whose roots are draped with garlands of yellow marigolds, white jasmine and purple flowers. In the centre a barefoot man in saffron-orange robes wears a long white flower garland, layered gold and beaded necklaces, bangles, and a face-painted, long-haired appearance; the appearance is not confidently established, so no identification is made. Behind him, men in white dhotis with gold borders, some with bare upper bodies and sacred threads, walk or stand with palms joined; one holds a tray of flowers and fruit, and another holds a silver umbrella over a decorated palanquin-style vehicle covered in garlands. A blue sign reads DO NOT ENTER THE CAVE, and a floral kolam rangoli sits on the ground at the lower left.2016-12-23Outdoor ritual beneath a large banyan tree with dense aerial roots and hanging branches.
