A photograph of a large outdoor gathering on a high, grassy plain under a blue sky with cumulus clouds. Many devotees stand in rows, most wearing red shawls draped over their shoulders. Several hold flat, pale tan leaf-plates or offering plates in both hands, and some have their eyes closed or hands raised in prayer. Women in sun hats, sunglasses, white long-sleeved tops, dark trousers and a patterned headscarf are visible, along with a woman in a striped top at right. Blankets, bags, parked vehicles and a distant hillside form the background. Several dozen people are visible.

Several people sit in a loose circle, many wearing orange or saffron scarves wrapped over their heads and shoulders. One woman in a pink and white knit hat and red top sits at left; a man in a red knit cap and blue jacket sits centre; a woman in a black jacket with an orange head scarf sits right of centre; a person in an orange knit hat sits at lower right. Two standing figures in orange scarves and dark jackets stand at upper left. Blue tarpaulins, a white tent and gear lie scattered in the background, and backpacks and boots are visible on the grass. Many wear red or orange shawls and woollen hats, and several hold small brass trays of offerings and ritual vessels on the mats. A woman in a white hat and red shawl sits with palms pressed together in prayer at the front. Two video cameras on tripods film the scene, and a standing man in dark clothing watches from the shoreline. The gathering appears to be a pada puja by the lake, with the rear of the crowd numerous and the overall group roughly in the 21-100 range.2012-08-07Outdoor photo of a ritual gathering on dry grass under bright sunlight. A figure seated on an ornate gold throne with a trident-topped staff beside it wears an orange knit cap, red robe and a leopard-print cloth over the seat, with a long beaded necklace. Around them, devotees sit on mats and rugs in orange and saffron shawls: a woman in a blue headscarf and white top holds a brass plate of offerings, another in a white cap and green patterned kurta holds a plate, a grey-haired woman in pink and orange holds a plate, and a woman in orange sari kneels at right. Brass thalis with flowers and offerings are set on the rugs. Behind them, more people in orange and white sit on blankets, with bags, shoes and a camera tripod visible. Seated figure appears to be a person candidate by orange cap, long beaded necklace and throne presence, though identity is uncertain from appearance.2012-08-07July 12 20122012-07-12
