A dense night-time street procession moves through a crowded town road. In the foreground, a large ornate palanquin with a white canopy edged in gold fringe carries a decorated deity murti in colourful painted and jewelled costume, borne on long green poles by many men in white dhotis and shirts, some bare-chested. Behind it, a second palanquin with a green-and-gold canopy carries another decorated deity figure. Hundreds of onlookers fill the street and balconies, and uniformed police stand among them. Shop signs, string lights and a large red-and-white portrait banner on a pole line the roadside, with a Tamil name visible on the banner.
