A dense outdoor procession in warm evening light. Several red flags with gold trim, bearing a portrait, are held aloft by devotees in the foreground. Behind them, a golden ornate palanquin-style float with a striped canopy carries a seated figure in orange robes surrounded by attendants in white dhotis. Crowds of onlookers in orange, pink and green clothing line the street, several raising phones. A shaved-headed man in white dhoti and red-and-white cloth stands near the center. Trees, string lights and stalls frame the scene.

Many men hold tall orange-red flags on poles. A tractor with a red body and passengers stands at right behind the crowd. Dirt ground, brick wall, and banana plants frame the scene under an overcast sky. A man at left in a yellow-checked shirt presses his palms together in greeting. Several people are seen from behind or in profile, the palanquin's occupant is not clearly visible, so no one is identified.2011-07-15May 09th 20162016-05-09May 21 20162016-05-21A festival procession moves along a dirt road lined with a large crowd carrying saffron-orange flags on poles. At the centre, a red tractor pulls a decorated open cart draped with yellow, white and purple garlands; a multicoloured canopy with fringe sits above a figure seated on a raised platform at the front of the cart. Men in white shirts and dhotis walk alongside the vehicle, while women in orange and maroon saris clap and smile on the left. A brick wall and trees with a red gateway frame the background.2011-07-15Photograph of a dense crowd at a Kumbh Mela procession. At center, a seated figure in saffron-orange robes, a matching orange-and-gold turban, and orange beaded necklaces sits on an ornate gold throne-like palanquin decorated with carved gold figures. Attendants in white dhotis and bare-chested devotees with rudraksha-style beads stand and sit around the platform, some holding red and saffron flags and decorative umbrellas. Crowds of devotees with raised hands and phones press in on both sides of the street, and striped and colourful umbrellas line the route under trees. The seated figure shows distinctive saffron robes, orange turban and beaded necklaces, which is a probable appearance-based match to a person on a procession palanquin.2016-04-22May 09th 20162016-05-09April 18 20162016-04-18
