A smiling man seated before an ornate gold throne-back with floral and scroll carving, palms pressed together in a gesture of greeting. He wears a rust-orange turban with a peacock-feather ornament and a red bindi, red and white flower garlands around his neck, a beaded necklace, gold earrings and beaded armlets, and an orange-and-gold cloth over his bare upper body. Red velvet with tiger-stripe pattern lies at the lower left and dark drapery hangs at right. Swamiji (probable) is identifiable by the turban with peacock ornament, saffron-toned ceremonial clothing, ornate gold necklaces and garlands; he is seated in the in-person role of greeting a gathering from a throne.
