Rows of unlit oil lamps line the red stepped banks on the left, and potted plants sit on the upper steps. Many devotees, mostly women in white and in bright saris of pink, green, yellow and orange, sit closely packed on the steps and along the railing, some holding long bamboo poles or sticks. A man in white stands among them with arm extended, and banana leaves and green decorative leaves are tied along the railings. The scene suggests a night ritual gathering with a mass of devotees facing the water.2010-02-12July 01 20092009-07-01July 01 20092009-07-01A large crowd of devotees stands on red-and-white striped stone steps and in shallow water at a temple tank during a festival. Most wear white dhotis and saris, with several women in orange or saffron garments and a few in red and pink. Some people wade in the water up to their waists while others descend the steps. At lower right, a small decorated float or boat with pink and yellow balloons carries figures in the water. Above the crowd a canopy and a decorated palanquin-like structure appear near the water's edge, and orange and white bunting is strung across the tank area. Trees and a red building stand in the background under a pale sky.2009-01-02July 07 20092009-07-07 +1 copies
