Night outdoor ceremony on a bare dirt ground in front of a long terracotta-coloured building. In the right foreground a tall fire blazes beside a wooden pole, with sparks rising. Behind it a large group of people, many dressed in white, sits and stands in rows, some in saffron and red garments. Bright floodlights illuminate the scene from the left and centre, and a gold-decorated object or palanquin-like structure stands among the crowd near the building.

Behind it, a group of people in orange and white clothing sit and stand on dusty ground. On the left, an ornate shrine canopy with a lit deity murti glows red and gold, with people in orange robes and white garments around it. Lamps and a light source illuminate the scene against a dark sky, with a building in the background.2013-03-02March 02 20132013-03-02March 02 20162016-03-02 +2 copiesMarch 02 20162016-03-02March 02 20162016-03-02 +2 copiesPhoto 11731596January 02 20162016-01-02March 02 20162016-03-02 +2 copiesNight photograph of an outdoor ritual in which a straw effigy figure on a pair of wooden poles is engulfed in tall flames on bare ground. Smoke drifts upward against a dark background of trees. Along the right, a row of people in white and light-coloured clothing, several in orange or red garments, stand watching. In the background left, a crowd stands behind a barrier and a decorated structure glows with lights. The scene suggests an anti-spiritual elements burning ritual; the effigy is a straw figure being burnt, not a person.2016-03-02March 02 20162016-03-02 +2 copiesNight outdoor fire ritual on sandy ground: a large bonfire of stacked wooden logs blazes at centre with sparks rising. Many people sit cross-legged in a wide circle, many in white clothes and some in red or pink saris, while a row of standing devotees in white dhotis and shawls watches. At the right edge a figure in an orange-saffron robe with a saffron head covering stands beside the fire, gesturing toward it, consistent with a homa or yagna. Children in white shirts sit in the foreground with their backs to the camera.2006-05-04
