A newborn black-and-white calf lies curled on the ground over patchy green grass and reddish-brown earth, its head bowed low and muzzle touching the grass. A thin rope is tied around its neck and trails across the frame. Dry twigs and fallen leaves lie scattered around it. Viewed from above, the calf's black patches and white body stand out sharply against the dull ground.
