A home altar table draped in leopard-print cloth holds many bowls of food offerings: fruits such as mangoes, pineapple, bananas, apples and plums, plus sweets, rice dishes and small cups of snacks, set out as naivedyam. Behind them a statue of a smiling man in an orange-red turban, rudraksha mala and white garland stands before framed pictures, including a golden tanjore-style painting of a seated man in a red-orange robe on an ornate throne, a Shiva image garlanded with marigolds, and a framed picture labelled with a name on a card. Trident, lamps and yellow-blue flower arrangements decorate the altar. No physical people are visible.
