On the left, three men in white dhotis and shawls hold lit oil lamps (aarti) toward a black stone deity murti decorated with multicoloured flower garlands and a silver-toned arch. In the centre, a woman in orange robes sits on a white cloth seat, with a row of devotees in white seated on the ground behind her. A small brass oil lamp stands on a red-and-grey stone pedestal, and a white-draped platform holds rows of small lit lamps and offerings. The scene is a puja or aarti performed in front of the deity shrine.2005-12-23At night, a photograph shows a deity murti decorated with a dense garland of yellow marigolds, red flowers and white strands, set within an ornate golden arched frame and beneath a colourful fringed canopy. A man in white dhoti and shawl with gold border stands at left, waving a white whisk or chamara fan toward the deity. Brass vessels, a plate of offerings and a silk cloth lie on the table in front, and a flame burns at the right edge. The lighting is dark and focused on the deity. No a person candidate is clearly visible.2013-01-09Night photograph of an outdoor shrine beneath a large banyan tree with lit lamps hanging in the branches. On the left a man in an orange-saffron robe holds a small lit flame or lamp aloft toward a shrine. Behind him several men in white ritual clothes stand in a row, one in a white shirt and light trousers, others in white dhotis and shirts. At right a dark stone or metal deity murti stands on a red-and-white painted pedestal, draped in white cloth and wearing a beaded necklace. In front of the pedestal a white-draped linga-shaped form with a golden hooded serpent above it sits on a stone platform, with a black-and-white patterned serpent figure coiled along the lower foreground and small oil lamps lit on the ground. A figure wearing a white turban and rudraksha-style beads sits near the right edge, but whether this is a living person or a statue is unclear.2005-03-08February 03 20152015-02-03
