Several saffron-robed monastics with shaved heads stand at the centre, one with his hands raised in greeting while older women in saris press forward with folded hands. Nearby, a man in a white shirt and a bespectacled man in white clothes lean in among the crowd, and a dark car is parked at the left edge. Green-painted walls, a tree and a thatched hut frame the background.2014-06-24A dense outdoor procession of women in saris moves along a street, most carrying silver pots (kumbhas) topped with coconuts wrapped in leaves and white flowers. Women in white, red, orange, yellow and teal saris and a man in white shirt and cap walk among them; a uniformed officer stands at the back. Garlands and bangles are visible. Many participants carry pots on their heads or hands.2014-06-29 +1 copiesJuly 04 20142014-07-04August 03 20092009-08-03A dense outdoor crowd gathers on a village street in Tamil Nadu, mostly men and women in white shirts, white dhotis and saris, with a few in yellow, green and orange. A striped purple, orange and green canopy shelters a decorated altar-like stall with a deity image and flowers on the right, and a white temple tower rises at the top. Many hands are folded in namaskar, and a man at center wears a white shirt with a beaded necklace. Power lines, a palm tree and shops frame the background. No individual can be reliably identified as a person from appearance.2009-08-03A dense street procession in Pondicherry with many women in cotton saris and marigold garlands crowding forward. In the left foreground a shaved-headed sannyasi in orange robes and rudraksha malas walks with his face partly turned, with a man in white shirt beside him. Women in yellow, cream and purple saris carry flower garlands and offerings, and an orange and yellow ceremonial umbrella with a red emblem rises at upper right over the crowd. Parked vehicles, shops and trees line the road behind.2014-06-29 +1 copiesJuly 01 20142014-07-01December 21 20112011-12-21A procession outdoors among orange-flagged poles and a yellow-and-green floral-garlanded vehicle at left. Many devotees crowd a dirt path: a woman in a white sari with a striped border presses her palms together, a woman in a yellow blouse and orange sari stands near the centre, a woman in a pink kurta with a red shawl and a girl in grey stand at right. Men in white dhotis and kurtas stand among them, one with hands folded. Golden tridents and ceremonial staffs rise above the crowd, and a white canopy shows at right, with an orange-and-red banner and palm trees behind a terracotta wall.2012-01-01
