February 08 20122012-02-08Dimly lit photograph of a bare-chested priest in a yellow dhoti bending over a small shrine niche, holding a flame-lit offering or lamp toward a deity murti draped in red and gold cloth and garlanded with white flower strands. A fluorescent tube light glows at the top of the niche, and small ritual objects and cloth strips hang on the wall. Scattered petals and offerings lie on the stone ledge in the foreground.2005-07-24A photograph inside a temple shrine showing a large rock-cut deity form, a stone murti smeared in vermilion (sindoor) and draped with a white cloth and layered garlands of yellow, orange and red flowers with blue ornaments. A young shirtless man in white dhoti and a yellow shawl with red border stands at left, looking toward the murti, wearing a pendant on a cord. At right, a shirtless man in a white dhoti bends forward in worship, wearing an orange shawl with a green-and-gold border. A framed picture hangs on the wall above, and a blurred hand is in the foreground.2010-09-04A photograph of a dark stone Shiva linga draped in a cream and gold-bordered cloth with red edges, decorated with a white flower garland and a horizontal white tripundra-style marking. A bare arm reaches in from the left to adjust the cloth. Blurred orange-robed figures stand at the frame edges, and a lit oil lamp and a brass ornamental lamp glow in the background. The scene suggests a temple puja setting with the deity murti dressed for worship.2012-05-18Dim temple shrine seen through a doorway, with a priest in a dark garment holding a lit aarti flame before a deity murti draped in red and orange cloth. Oil lamps burn on the shrine ledge and above the arch. A person in red clothing stands at the left edge and another in orange at the right edge, partially cropped and blurred. Stone walls and a decorated brass or stone object are visible on the right.2008-10-15A photograph inside a dim stone shrine chamber where a red-painted deity murti is decorated with yellow and orange marigold garlands, a white cloth draped over its head and blue-stone ornaments, lit by a bare electric bulb. In the foreground a figure in an orange sleeveless robe and a green leaf garland around the shoulders holds a lit oil lamp toward the murti. Beside him a man in a white dhoti stands with folded hands, and on the right a figure in orange cloth holds a garland. A bald man in the left foreground turns his face away. A painted panel with red and gold imagery is visible behind the murti. The scene shows a puja or aarti at the murti.2010-09-04A photograph of a temple ritual at a black stone deity murti. A priest in a red-orange turban and a red-brown dhoti with a white garland stands at the right, holding a brass lamp that flames while he lights it. Behind him a crowd of men in white shirts and dhotis presses close, some with folded hands, and a man with a camera stands among them. Blue wall and rafters with white garlands frame the shrine.2014-06-29 +1 copiesSeptember 29 20062006-09-29May 18 20122012-05-18May 18 20122012-05-18 +1 copiesA photograph inside a small shrine showing a bare-chested young male priest in a white dhoti with a green and yellow border, leaning forward to perform aarti before a dark stone deity murti. He holds a brass lamp with a lit oil flame toward the carved black stone image, which is garlanded with white and yellow marigold flowers and draped with a white cloth bordered in red and gold. A second dark stone figure stands at left in red and gold cloth, and a brass oil lamp burns at right beside a wooden lattice grille. The wall is plain and the stone sculptures appear weathered.2012-05-18 +1 copiesA photograph of a ritual at a stone shrine: a priest in an orange-saffron cloth and bare arm holds a brass multi-wick oil lamp with several burning flames in front of a dark black stone deity murti (Shiva linga-form) dressed with an orange cloth, a white shawl, a garland of white flowers and a red flower. The priest's hand is raised near the lamp flames, and the dark stone shrine walls with a small offering tray are visible, consistent with an aarti or puja. Only the priest's arm and part of his body are visible; no face is shown.2012-05-18 +1 copies
