January 14 20182018-01-14January 14 20182018-01-14A photograph of a puja being performed on the ground outside a temple doorway with carved wooden doors. A bare-chested priest in white dhoti with a yellow shawl and sandalwood markings sits on a striped cloth, arranging offerings in brass bowls on banana leaves: red flower garlands tied with blue ribbons, bananas, pomegranates, yellow marigolds and small brass lamps. A second person in an orange patterned garment and rudraksha mala sits beside him, and another seated man in white dhoti is partly visible at right. Fruit, a coconut, sugarcane and a flower-decorated kalasha-like vessel surround the offerings, with a red and white floral rangoli at left.2017-04-03December 26 20082008-12-26January 14 20182018-01-14A photograph of an outdoor homa or puja ceremony on striped woven mats. Priests in white dhotis with yellow borders attend a deity murti decorated with marigold garlands. A priest in a yellow-and-orange headband pours from a small vessel near a fire pit with burning wood, and an attendant in a white dhoti stands beside the offering trays. Brass plates hold flowers, bananas, apples and lamps, and potted plants sit at the left. A seated figure in an ornate gold throne wears a saffron robe, a gold necklace and a rudraksha mala, with attendants and a gold parasol behind him. Presentation is appearance-based and uncertain.2017-03-16A photograph of a Pongal ritual outdoors under a open-sided pavilion. A man in a maroon-and-gold dhoti with a maroon turban and a long white flower garland stands center with palms joined in namaskar before an altar. Several people in orange-saffron robes with rudraksha malas stand around; one bare-chested bearded man holds a brass tray of flowers, and another holds a round brass plate. The altar is a large square heaped with yellow and white marigolds and red flowers, with sugarcane stalks, bananas, brass lamps, a kalasha and small brass bowls. Floor rangoli and a yellow-and-red pennant flag appear at right.2018-01-14April 03 20172017-04-03April 03 20172017-04-03A photograph of a homa ritual at an outdoor altar. A person in a saffron-orange robe and matching orange head covering sits cross-legged at the right of the frame, holding a hand over a tray of offerings and flowers while seated beside a silver-coloured lamp and brass vessels. Two attendants in white clothing with yellow shoulder cloths sit at the left edge. Behind them, a table draped in white cloth holds gold-coloured kalasha pots decorated with green leaves, and a red and gold parasol-like canopy stands above. Marigold and rose petals are scattered on the steps in front of the altar. The orange-robed figure's face is partly turned, and no caption names this person, so a person is set to unsure.2009-09-26Outdoor ritual puja on a striped mat under a open sky with parked buses in the background. A bare-chested priest in white dhoti with yellow border stands at a puja setup decorated with marigold and rose garlands, bananas, fruits, brass plates, a kalasha-like vessel and oil lamps, bending over offerings. Another white-clad man stands with folded hands nearby, and a woman in white stands behind. Seated on a golden throne at right, a bare-chested man with long hair, a yellow headwrap and ornate gold necklaces receives attention; the figure's appearance is consistent with the page's reference to a person, but cues are not sufficiently distinctive to confirm. A small fire pit with offerings sits on the mat, and a deity murti decorated with garlands stands on a wooden peetha. Several people sit or stand around the scene.2017-03-16December 21 20092009-12-21
