Its cab roof is topped with an ornate gold canopy and a large framed portrait of a smiling woman in orange clothing, garlanded with white and orange flower strings. Orange flags flank the canopy and garlands drape over the windshield and sides. A white banner below reads in Tamil and English and shows a second orange-clad portrait beside a deity image of a standing couple with a child seated in front, with a bright garland border. Motorcyclists and pedestrians pass along the street, a schoolboy in a white uniform walks on the right past wall posters, and a few people stand near the vehicle. The truck is part of a procession, and the banner announces a rath pada yatra.2009-02-13A street photograph of a gilded wooden temple chariot (ratha) parked at a roadside temple in Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu. A large deity murti sits in the open chariot, garlanded with flower strands and draped in red and green cloth; a man in white dhoti with an orange shawl stands on the chariot beside it. On the left, a cluster of about ten men in white dhotis and orange shawls, one elderly woman in a purple sari, and a bare-chested man in a checked lungi stand on the roadside. Behind them stand white stone sculptures and a temple gopuram-style structure. A banner on the chariot shows a figure and Tamil text, and a panel below shows small photographs with Tamil captions.2006-10-13A road procession in Tamil Nadu on a sunny day, with a gold-coloured ornate decorated vehicle on the left bearing a Tamil-language banner, and a white van behind. A gilded, carved wooden chariot on the right carries a seated deity murti draped in white and garlanded with orange and white flowers, with an orange flag on a pole behind it. Crowds of devotees stand and walk along the roadside; a woman in a green sari with a braid and a man in a white shirt and orange cloth are prominent. A small framed portrait of a bearded man in a white cap is visible on the chariot, and a red-and-blue signboard hangs on the left building. Thatched and bamboo structures frame the scene under trees.
