A four-panel collage of a Pancha-Tapas penance regimen at an ashram. Top left, a long line of men in white dhotis with yellow sashes climbs a broad red-brick staircase beside a shaded area. Middle left, several men in white with yellow sashes bend forward in a row, touching the stone steps beside a water tank, with an orange-robed figure at the front. Top right, a man in white with an orange cap bends to the ground beside a red-brick step. Bottom left, a man in white with a yellow sash lifts a heavy stone block overhead beside the water. Bottom right, men in white with yellow sashes carry stones and climb the red steps in a procession, with an orange-robed figure among them. The panels show activities; no statue or screen figure is counted as a physical person.2010-08-06August 09 20102010-08-09Outdoor photo of a row of about ten men in white dhotis and white shirts with yellow sashes performing a stretching or bending exercise on a wide brick-paved ghat beside a reddish-brown water tank. Most are bent forward with arms extended toward the steps, while some raise their arms overhead. A single standing man in an orange robe, with arms raised, stands near the water's edge at left. Red stone steps with metal railings rise behind the water.2010-08-06 +1 copiesNovember 03 20112011-11-03A three-panel collage of outdoor scenes at an ashram compound with red-roofed buildings behind a dirt field. Many people in white clothing, some with orange or red accents, are gathered and pulling on long ropes in a tug-of-war style activity. The top and bottom panels show wider views of the crowd and the line of participants along the ropes, while the middle panel shows a closer view of people leaning back on the rope. No single identifiable figure is clearly shown in a leading role, and the collage is a graphic with pictured activity rather than a single photograph.2010-08-05January 27 20122012-01-27August 01 20112011-08-01A photograph of a wide red-painted stone staircase under a bright white sky. Several people in white clothing climb and descend the steps, many carrying grey stone blocks held against their chests. Foreground: a bald man in a white robe and white dhoti-style garment with a yellow shawl draped over his shoulders descends while cradling a grey stone. Midground: two men in white shirts and white trousers, one barefoot, climb with stones. Background: a group of men in white stand at the top of the staircase, some wearing yellow or orange waist cloths, with a metal railing along the right edge.2010-08-06September 03 20102010-09-03August 24 20102010-08-24A photograph of a long red-painted stone staircase rising diagonally across the frame. Several men in white ritual clothing climb and stand on the steps, several carrying grey stone blocks on their shoulders or in their arms. The foreground figure, shaved-headed and wearing white robes with a yellow shawl, walks away from the camera down the steps. Others in white with yellow and orange waist sashes stand at the top of the stairs under a bright white sky, with a metal railing at the right edge. The setting appears to be an outdoor ashram or practice ground.2010-08-06September 17 20102010-09-17 +2 copies
