September 4 1989 - earliest ever recorded public function

Close view of a temple gopuram tier showing carved grey stone sculptures of standing female deities in tall crowns with jewelled ornaments, one holding a lotus or fruit and another raising a hand. Stepped architectural mouldings and a scrolled floral finial rise above them, with green plants growing from crevices. No living people are visible; the figures are statues carved into the temple wall.

A carved stone relief of a multi-armed deity figure stands in a niche on a dark granite temple pillar. The figure wears a tall cylindrical crown, a beaded necklace and a jewelled belt, and holds a trident-like weapon and other attributes in its raised hands. Beside it, a polished silver-toned metal relief of a standing female deity with an ornate headdress is set into the wall. A framed plaque hangs at the upper left. The scene is a temple interior of carved sculpture, with no living people present.

A close view of a white stone carving on a temple gopuram or wall, showing a multi-armed deity standing within a circular carved frame. The figure wears a necklace, waist sash and bangles, and holds objects in several hands, with a flame-like finial above the frame. Flanking attendant figures in relief stand on the sides, and carved animal heads and kalasha-like finials decorate the lower area. No physical people are visible, and no a person depiction is shown.

Close-up photograph of a weathered dark grey stone carving on a temple wall. A carved figure in relief sits or leans with one raised arm, wearing a rounded headdress and a layered garment, set between stone pillars with moulded capitals. No living people are visible. The carving shows surface erosion and a faint white mineral residue on the left pillar.

A carved grey stone sculpture of a female figure stands on a pedestal inside a temple hall with wooden ceiling beams and stone pillars. The apsara-like figure wears an ornate headdress, layered jewellery and a flowing skirt, holding a musical instrument and a small object. Devotees' heads are visible at the lower edge of the frame, and a stone carved panel and painted red and green architectural trim appear at the right. This is a sculpture, not a living person, and no visible person matches the presentation cues for a person.

A large dark stone sculpture of a multi-armed female figure standing on a rearing mythical creature, possibly a yali or lion-like beast, carved into a temple pillar. Her arms hold objects including a conch or bowl and a lotus-like form, and she wears ornate jewellery and a decorated headdress. In the foreground at the bottom left, an elderly man with white hair and a woman with dark hair pulled back in a bun view the statue, while a partly visible person stands at the right edge. Dim interior lighting and a wooden ceiling frame the pillar. The pillar carving is a deity murti, not a living person.

Three dark grey stone statues stand on a shared black pedestal in front of a white tarpaulin backdrop, apparently in an outdoor setting. The central figure is a multi-armed standing deity murti with a tall conical crown and a bird-like vahana beside its legs, flanked by two slender standing female figures in tall conical headdresses, jewellery and draped garments, one holding a lotus-like object. The carving shows detailed ornamentation on necklaces, belts and armlets. No people are visible in the scene.

A close photograph of a weathered grey stone relief carving on a temple wall. A carved deity figure lies horizontally across the panel with a trident-shaped weapon raised diagonally above it, a small crescent or moon-like motif on the head area, and bangled or ornamented arms. The carving is worn and dusty, with a dark stain near one edge. No physical people are visible.
