A photograph of a temple puja in progress. A seated figure in a red-maroon robe and matching red turban sits on an ornate gold throne with a gold-framed backrest, hands folded, in front of a dark niche with hanging bells and beaded strings. Two large painted statues of a four-armed deity flank the throne, decorated with gold necklaces, green cloth and gold crowns, each holding ritual objects. In the foreground, a priest in white and a bare-chested priest in saffron cloth perform rites, one holding a bell and a small vessel. A tiered brass aarti lamp with lit flames stands in the lower right, and brass oil lamps frame the left. Several seated devotees in saffron, orange and white saris and white clothes sit in the background.2014-11-11November 11 20142014-11-11November 11 20142014-11-11November 11 20142014-11-11A seated figure in a gold ornate throne sits centrally in a shrine-like hall, wearing a maroon-red wrap, a gold necklace and gold armbands, with a golden umbrella canopy above. Flanking the throne are two large painted deity statues with multiple arms, gold crowns and gold ornaments, holding lotus buds and ritual objects. Brass oil lamps stand on both sides, and a bald figure in an orange-brown robe sits in the foreground with hands raised in devotion, facing the throne. Hanging brass bells and beads decorate the dais. The seated figure is not established as a person by appearance cues beyond the throne and attire, so identity is uncertain.2013-07-25Photo of a golden throne framed by two painted, multi-armed deity statues with orange-pink and green garments, flanked by brass lamps. Seated on the central golden throne with a tiger-skin cushion is a figure in a rust-red robe with a gold necklace and tilak, presented as a central figure; the seated figure is an appearance-based candidate but the appearance is uncertain. In the foreground, a shaved-headed devotee in saffron-orange wrap sits facing the throne with hands joined, and a few other devotees with folded hands sit at the edges. Hanging bells, lamps and a canopy hang above the dais.2013-07-25A photograph inside a richly decorated temple hall with painted pink, green and gold pillars and a golden doorway framing a seated figure on an ornate gold throne. The seated figure wears a deep red-brown robe, a long white flower garland and a gold necklace, with hands resting on the throne arms. Two painted attendant figures with multiple arms, orange-red dhotis and green sashes stand on either side, holding lamps and ritual items. In the foreground, a priest in orange at left tends to brass oil lamps, while several women in orange and saffron sit with palms pressed together, facing the throne. Brass lamps with lit flames sit on the floor and along the walls. The scene suggests a satsang or darshan setting.2013-06-30A seated figure in a red-brown robe with a gold necklace sits on an ornate gold throne with a tiger-skin cushion, framed by a gold canopy and hanging bells. Two large painted deity murti flank the throne, each with four arms, orange skin, crowns, gold ornaments and green sashes, holding ritual objects. The statues wear gold necklaces, green sashes and red dhotis, and hold ritual objects. Seated on the gilded throne is a figure in a maroon robe with a gold-bordered garland, the figure appearing to be a statue or portrait, not a living person. In the foreground a priest with a shaved head, wearing a maroon robe and an orange-gold shawl, holds up a multi-tiered silver aarti lamp with many burning oil lamps. A woman in red sits at the left edge near a small table with a bowl. The setting suggests an aarti offering in front of a deity murti.2014-10-06A photograph of a seated man in a maroon and gold robe with a maroon head wrap and a white-and-gold beaded garland, sitting on an ornate gilded throne with a golden arched backrest and cushions.
