Outdoor scene under a large banyan tree with hanging aerial roots. In the foreground a woman in a brown kurta and white dhoti, with a long rudraksha mala hanging down her back, bends forward and digs into red-brown soil with a long-handled metal tool. At right, a woman in orange clothing holds a wooden-handled shovel over a pale bucket and scoops earth. Behind them several women in orange, yellow and blue saris and salwar kameez work in the soil, and an older woman in a white sari with gold border stands at left. Some workers wear red and orange threads on their wrists.

Five people in white ashram-style clothing with orange sashes pass dark metal trays between them. A man on the left in a white dhoti-style garment and orange sash walks toward the group. A young woman in white with a mala necklace holds a tray, and another woman in white with an orange sash holds a second tray. A photograph of a kara seva work scene at AdiKailaasa on a dry, dusty ground under a large shade tree. Several men in white shirts and white dhotis dig and shovel earth from a mound of reddish soil, while a man in a khaki uniform and a man in a light shirt work nearby. Women in white and cream saris, one wearing an orange and white patterned sari, carry shallow trays or baskets of soil. A low breeze-block wall with fresh red earth piles sits behind them, with distant rocky hills in the background.

A yellow bucket sits on the ground. Behind them, several people in orange and white clothing stand or work in the soil, and a man in a white cap and white clothes watches at right. Outdoors beneath a large banyan tree with aerial roots, several people dig red-brown earth with hand tools. In the foreground a young man in an orange dhoti and orange shawl, with a rudraksha-style necklace, drives a long iron tool into the soil while crouching. Beside him a person in orange works with a spade, and further back others in orange and white clothing dig with shovels and hoes. A woman in a red sari and a figure in white dhoti attire are also at work among the roots and fresh-turned earth. Small seedlings sprout at the lower left of the dirt mound, and the scene suggests a tree-planting or ground-preparation activity.
