In the foreground a figure in orange robes with a long white beard sits with hands folded. Several people wear white and orange garments, and a large banyan tree forms part of the background, consistent with a paduka puja setting.2010-09-29May 08 20122012-05-08 +1 copiesA photograph taken at dusk along a riverside ghat, with many devotees crowded in the foreground and along the steps. In the right foreground, a man with long dark hair wears an orange-saffron robe and holds a silver trident (trishul) upright over his shoulder, looking off to the side; he appears to be Swamiji (probable), given the long swept hair, saffron clothing and trident. Among the crowd, people wear white, pink, purple and yellow clothes, several women with headscarves. Behind them stands a tall stone shrine or lamp-tower with a lit tiered structure, and rows of electric lamps and lit buildings line the hillside under a blue evening sky.2005-05-25Photo taken from a boat on the Ganga at Varanasi with a hazy riverbank of ghats, temple spires and stacked firewood behind. In the foreground at right, a bare-chested man with long dark hair, a white forehead mark, a large white-beaded mala and orange-red shawl stands near the boat's edge, the figure matching the swamiji cues of long swept hair, distinctive adornments and saffron clothing, so this is a probable Swamiji (probable) present in person, his hand raised in blessing. Beside him women in orange and white saris with orange shawls press palms together, one holding a small brass object, while more women in orange and red sit along the boat with flower garlands. Silver trishul staffs and a golden staff stand upright on the boat and the water bears marigold petals.2013-02-13Evening photograph at a riverside ghat with a large crowd of devotees seated on steps facing a tall stone structure with a lingam-like shape in the water. Floodlights and lit buildings line the hillside behind. In the right foreground, a long-haired figure with a silver trident beside the head is seen from behind, wearing saffron/orange clothing and facing the crowd. Many people in white, pink and yellow garments fill the frame, with some in orange. A few are close in the lower left, while others sit further back near the water.2005-05-25Evening Ganga aarti at a riverside ghat in Haridwar, with many devotees seated in rows on the steps in the foreground. Lit oil lamps and flames float on the dark water in front of several small shrines and a tall pinnacled temple on the bank. Terraced buildings and trees climb the hillside behind. In the right foreground, a figure in orange-saffron robes with long hair and a trident-topped staff faces the river, seen from behind and in silhouette, so no distinctive a person cues are clearly visible.2005-05-25
