Outdoor temple scene under a large banyan tree with aerial roots. A man with long dark hair and a gold-bead necklace, wearing a white dhoti and shawl, stands barefoot on a black marble floor holding a silver bell and a silver lamp with a lit flame, performing aarti. Behind him, two men stand at right: one in white dhoti with gold border and a second in saffron/orange robe and gold necklace, both holding silver trays with flowers and offerings. In the background a black deity murti in a silver arched frame is draped with yellow, orange and red garland, with a mound of red offerings at its base and a lit lamp beside it. The a person cues are the long swept-back hair, gold necklace and white attire of the central figure performing the aarti.2010-12-21December 21 20102010-12-21A photograph of a temple ritual on a stone-pillared porch. A man with long, swept-back black hair, wearing a white dhoti and sheer white upper cloth, a gold rudraksha-style necklace, a gold armlet and a white forehead band, holds a silver aarti lamp with a flame and a small silver bell in his other hand. Two attendants stand behind him: the left wears white dhoti with gold border and a gold necklace, holding a silver plate; the middle wears an orange-saffron dhoti with gold border and gold necklace, with tilak markings on the forehead. Foreground shows brass kalasha pots, a brass lamp stand, a silver bowl and a white conch-like object on a patterned cloth, and a white deity murti garlanded with red, purple and white flowers at right. In the left foreground, a Shiva lingam stands inside a white stone arch, draped with garlands in yellow, red and purple, and heaped with red offerings. Nearby, a flame burns on a tree trunk. Two men stand to the right: a young man in white dhoti and shawl with a long hair and rudraksha garland holds a bell and oil lamp, while a shaved-headed man in saffron-orange robes and a matching shawl stands beside him. Other devotees in white and red-bordered garments stand with hands folded, and a person in white stands at the back near the lingam. Floor kolam designs are visible in white.2010-12-21March 02 20112011-03-02January 01 20092009-01-01Outdoor temple scene under a large leafy tree. In the centre, a man with long dark swept-back hair wears an orange-red dhoti and shawl with beaded necklaces, holding a small brass bell and a plate in front of a shrine. Behind him, a deity murti in red garments and a flower garland sits within a carved stone arch, surrounded by a mound of red-orange offerings and small oil lamps flickering with flames. To the right, several men in white dhotis with golden borders and orange shawls stand with brass plates of flowers and offerings, hands folded in devotion. The ground is decorated with white rangoli patterns. The shrine and devotees suggest a puja or aarti at an open-air temple.2010-12-28December 21 20102010-12-21December 21 20102010-12-21A photograph of an evening puja at a Shiva lingam decorated with yellow and red flower garlands. A man in a saffron-orange garment with gold trim and a long white and red flower garland holds a lit oil lamp (aarti) toward the lingam. Long dark hair and a gold necklace are visible; the cues are distinctive, so this is a probable Swamiji (probable) performing the ritual. Beside him, a man in white dhoti and orange shawl holds a silver tray, and another man in white with an orange shawl and tripundra marks stands with palms joined in prayer. Flower-garlanded pillars and a floral arch decorate the background, and a seated man in orange is visible at the lower left.2007-01-01 +1 copiesOctober 10 20102010-10-10 +1 copies
