December 23 20082008-12-23A group of saffron-robed sannyasis walks barefoot along a paved street in front of a temple gateway. The central man wears an orange dhoti and shawl with gold borders and a long ornate gold bead necklace, with a red bindi on his forehead. Around him, men in white dhotis with gold-bordered shawls and white-and-orange-clad monastics carry a small brass vessel and an orange cloth bag. Sandalwood tilaka marks cover several foreheads, and rudraksha malas hang on many chests. Behind them, a metal gate and shopfronts line the street. Appearance cues alone are not sufficient to identify the central figure, so his role is described as a saffron-clad sannyasi leading the procession.2011-09-26August 06 20092009-08-06Photo of a temple procession outside a stone temple gateway with carved pillars and sculpted figures. At centre, a man with long swept-back dark hair wears an orange saffron cloth, a thick orange-and-gold flower garland, a gold necklace and gold bangles, and carries a white staff with a red tip. Around him, several men in white dhotis with gold borders, some with rudraksha malas, walk along; one shaved-headed man in front holds a white staff and another wears dark-rimmed glasses. A man in a grey shirt stands at the left edge. The central figure has distinctive long hair, ornate gold and saffron attire, and is walked with by attendants, so the appearance is a probable match for a person in a temple visit context.2011-12-08A procession outdoors on a sunny day with palm trees and low white buildings behind. In the centre, a man with long dark hair, orange saffron robe, a thick gold bead necklace and a gold pendant walks with eyes lowered and a red tilak on his forehead. Beside him, a man in an orange robe holds a long wooden staff, and another man in orange holds a gold-topped staff on the left. A man in white clothes with an orange shawl walks on the right, and a woman in white is in the background.2008-12-23May 10 20122012-05-10Outdoor photo at a South Indian temple courtyard with a gopuram tower and a covered colonnade. A smiling man in the centre wears a flowing orange robe over a red top, a gold pendant and a long garland of beads, with a red tilak on his forehead and long swept-back hair; he has an appearance-based candidate profile for a person with distinctive saffron clothing, long hair, a garland and a gold pendant. To the left, a bearded sadhu in orange holds a paper and wears a mala. A white-clad man stands at the left edge, and an elder in pink kurta greets someone at right. A woman in an orange sari stands in the right foreground, and several white-clad devotees and onlookers fill the background. A banner over the entrance reads Arunachaleswarar temple.2009-08-06July 24 20122012-07-24June 05 20122012-06-05A photograph of a group walking along a shaded paved path beneath a large tree. In the centre, a man in orange and gold ceremonial dress, with a gold necklace, a rudraksha-style bead mala, a wide gold-bordered orange cloth draped over his shoulder and a sacred vibhuti mark on his forehead, walks forward. Around him, men in saffron and orange robes wear beaded malas, and one carries an orange cloth held aloft. A man in white clothes with an orange shawl carries an orange bag, and a woman in white churidar clothing with a pink dupatta walks at right. Strings of garlands and a white cloth bundle are visible at the right edge. Several people appear in the background under the tree and a shelter, and a water bottle sits on the ground at lower right.2012-09-12A photograph of several men walking outdoors past white-painted buildings with palm trees and a blue tent at the right. Center, a smiling young man with long swept-back hair wears a saffron-orange sannyasi robe, a thick orange-beaded necklace, and a red tilak, gesturing with one hand. To his left, a man with long hair in orange robe with maroon border walks beside him. At right, an older bearded man with glasses wears an orange robe and rudraksha mala, while a man in white shirt and white dhoti with a blue beaded necklace and gold watch clasps his hands. Several other men in white shirts and dhotis stand behind them, and devotees are visible in the background. The imagery suggests a procession or ceremonial walk.2009-11-25A photograph of a temple walkway with a procession of people moving through a dim interior. At the centre, a man in a bright orange draped garment with a gold border, multiple beaded necklaces and bangles walks with his hands folded at his chest, looking upward. Around him, several men wear orange or saffron robes and rudraksha malas, one in a white kurta holds a tall silver staff, and a shaved-headed man in white dhoti with gold border walks beside them. Onlookers in light shirts and saris stand in the background.2012-04-11
