A photograph of Pongal cooking outdoors. Two clay pots sit on stacked red brick stoves over the ground, with white foam or milk boiling over the rim of the nearer pot and steam rising from the second. A person in white trousers squats at the right, bare feet visible, wearing a gold bangle and tending the second pot. Behind them a woman in a yellow and orange patterned sari stands at the left. Scattered red kumkum and dry leaves lie near the bricks, and the dusty ground is in full daylight.2006-12-31A clay pot of milk boils over a small open fire on bare ground, with foam rising above the rim of the pot and steam drifting upward. The pot rests on stacked yellow-orange bricks stained with turmeric and kumkum, with dry twigs and ash scattered around the fire. Part of a pair of bare feet and the edge of a pink garment appear at the top left. This is a Pongal-style milk boiling offering, consistent with the Mattu Pongal celebration. No people are visible in the scene except partially cropped feet, and no a person candidate appears in the image.2019-01-16January 15 20162016-01-15January 15 20162016-01-15January 16 20192019-01-16Overhead view of a clay pot of milk boiling over a small wood fire on bare earth, set on three red bricks marked with kumkum and white lines. A wooden stick is being stirred in the pot by a hand entering from the upper right. A person's foot wearing a white garment with a yellow border and red-painted toenails stands at the right edge. Scattered twigs, pebbles and a small piece of paper lie on the ground. No identifiable face is visible.2006-12-31A dark metal pot of boiling milk sits on a small clay stove built from stacked yellow-ochre bricks, with flames licking beneath it and steam rising. Two bricks are dusted with turmeric and white powder, and one has a white painted circle. Behind the stove a person in orange-red robes stirs with a long ladle and holds a brass vessel, and a second robed figure is partly visible at the top. The setting is an outdoor ground of sandy earth, consistent with a Pongal cooking ritual.2019-01-16January 15 20162016-01-15January 14 20182018-01-14 +1 copiesA clay pot overflowing with white boiling milk sits on a small fire of dry sticks, set on two reddish bricks. Flames lick the sides of the pot, and a few stray flames rise nearby. The ground is sandy, with scattered twigs and a little kumkum-coloured powder marked on the brick and pot. At the top edge, the hems of a white cloth and a pink-and-white striped sari are partly visible, belonging to people standing just out of frame. This is a Pongal-style boiling of milk in a clay pot, a scene typical of Mattu Pongal rituals. No one's face is visible, and no identity is shown.2019-01-16January 15 20162016-01-15January 15 20162016-01-15
