November 10 20112011-11-10A photo of an outdoor homa fire ceremony on a tiled courtyard beside a red wall. A man seated on a white cloth with a folded striped mat wears a bare chest, a rudraksha mala and a gold chain and sits before a rangoli of yellow flowers and red powder with apples laid out. Beside him a standing man in white dhoti and shawl, wearing a rudraksha mala, bends over a square fire pit lined with brick-coloured blocks and yellow marigold petals, where flames burn above a copper vessel and ladle. Marigold garlands, a kalasha and pots of offerings are placed around the area, and two people in saffron clothing stand in the background. Several rows of coconuts decorated with flowers line the wall.2016-02-27November 10 20112011-11-10A night-time homa at an open-air ashram hall. A square yellow-and-white tiered fire pit holds a burning fire with smoke rising. About nine young shaved-headed men in saffron-orange robes with white tilak marks and rudraksha malas sit cross-legged around it; one in the foreground tends the fire while others sit with folded hands. A standing young man in orange stands at the back, and a figure in white sits on the right. Brass oil lamps stand on the right beside yellow marigold garlands and a cloth offering. Two priests in white dhoti and an older man with white hair and vertical white tilak stand over a square fire pit of stacked bricks, one pouring an offering from a steel bowl. A second younger man in saffron-orange dhoti and a bare chest with a sacred thread leans forward beside them. Brass kalasha pots wrapped in red and pink fabric, coconuts, mango leaves, white jasmine garlands and yellow and red marigolds, small cones of grain and brass bowls of offerings fill the table. Behind them, devotees in white sit on red mats in a bright hall, and a man in white dhoti with a microphone sits at right.2013-07-18October 16 20132013-10-16September 27 20172017-09-27 +1 copiesNight outdoor ritual with a fire pit sending up smoke and flames at centre right. A man in a saffron-orange dhoti and shawl stands at left with hands folded in prayer, beside an ornate red-and-gold throne draped in marigold garlands. Several people in white ritual clothes and saffron-robed monks kneel and stand around the fire, one holding a brass vessel. Marigold garlands wrap large covered pots and kalasha-style vessels in the foreground, with mango leaves and red flowers, and brass cups and lamps are laid on a low table at right.
