A photograph of a festival procession at an outdoor ceremony. A figure in an orange turban, orange robe with a shawl and a large white-and-gold ceremonial pendant sits on a palanquin heavily decorated with garlands of red, yellow, purple and white flowers and green leaves. Beside him a man in an orange kurta with a rudraksha-style mala and glasses is adjusting or folding an orange cloth. A woman in orange and white stands at the right edge, and an orange-robed attendant with gold necklaces is at the left. Red and white tent fabric forms the canopy overhead. The seated figure has distinctive long dark hair, a turban and ornate gold-and-orange adornments, so the appearance-based label a person applies to the palanquin rider.2011-07-15A photograph of a decorated golden palanquin or ratha during a procession, draped with orange and marigold garlands and hanging tassels in red, pink, blue and purple, with a brass bell at the upper left. A man with long swept-back dark hair and a saffron/orange shawl over an orange dhoti sits on the throne, smiling and holding a rudraksha mala, with a tilak on his forehead; the appearance is consistent with a person on a palanquin during the Kumbha Mela procession, though the identity is uncertain. Beside him, a shaved-headed young man in an orange wrap and rudraksha malas bends forward and touches the seated man's bare foot in reverence.2013-02-10Outdoor procession scene under bright sunlight with palm trees behind. In the foreground, a figure with long, swept-back dark hair wears a saffron-orange wrap and stands beside a decorated float. The float carries a deity murti adorned with yellow marigold garlands and a colourful flower arch, with a kalasha and offering dishes at its base. A man in white clothes stands with hands folded in namaste at right, and a person in orange robes holds a tall gold-coloured staff at the edge of the frame. Several other people in white and orange are visible behind.2008-12-23April 19 20082008-04-19December 23 20082008-12-23Outdoor procession photograph against a bright white sky. In the centre, a man with long dark hair wears an orange turban, an orange garment with a rudraksha mala, and a thick white and red flower garland. He sits on a carved wooden seat on a decorated palanquin fitted with tall tassels in red, purple, green, orange and blue, topped with gold finials. To the left, a shaved-headed man in orange clothes and glasses, with a rudraksha mala, smiles and gestures. A gold kalasha-like vessel with orange and white garlands sits in the foreground, and a person in orange holds a rail at the right edge.2010-07-24Outdoor ritual offering before a deity murti decorated with garlands in yellow, orange, pink and green. A man in an orange robe with a gold necklace and rudraksha-style beads stands at left, breaking a coconut-like offering over a tray of fruit held by a young man in white. A woman in an orange saffron robe and gold necklace stands at right, holding out offerings, with several men in white dhotis and shirts around her. Setting is a street or temple courtyard with bright sunlight and a white building behind.2008-12-23A festival procession on an ornate decorated float. A smiling man sits on a red and gold cushioned seat with a golden crown, red and white flower garlands, and a rudraksha-style ceremonial necklace, wearing an orange sleeveless garment. Tassels in green, blue and gold hang above him. In the foreground, a person with long dark hair in an orange robe leans toward him, one hand near a brass object. Flowers in red and yellow decorate the float, and a white building stands in the background. Swamiji (probable): the seated man wears a golden crown, long swept-back hair, garlands and orange clothing on a procession float, and is the honoured figure on the float. The orange-robed figure is a devotee.2009-12-27Outdoor procession on a decorated float under a clear blue sky. A man in orange robes with a maroon-bordered shawl stands at left, reaching to adjust a deity murti dressed in white and yellow cloth and draped with yellow and white marigold garlands, with a colourful striped arch behind it. Beside it, a seated man in orange robes with a rudraksha mala and gold chain sits with palms pressed together in anjali. A woman in an orange sari stands at right beneath a red umbrella with tasselled fringe, and devotees in white gather at the lower left. Brass and flower offerings sit on the float.2008-12-23April 19 20082008-04-19Outdoor temple-style ceremony under clear blue sky with trees and thatched huts behind. A man in orange saffron robes with long dark hair stands on a raised platform beside a decorated ratha or palanquin, holding a brass plate with coconut, fruit and leaves. Beneath the canopy, a deity murti in garlands is set on a table draped with cloth. Another man in orange robes, with dark hair and a bead necklace, kneels in front with hands together. Men in white shirts and white dhotis, some with yellow sashes, surround the table, handling offerings and flowers. Marigold garlands and a decorated wheel-like backdrop frame the scene, consistent with a procession or puja during the Brahmotsava flag-hoisting day.2008-12-23July 15 20112011-07-15
